Everything you’re about to ask

Pick the event you’re coming to. If your question isn’t here, ask us.

A day of master classes. No routines, no scoring — dancers come to train.

Before the day

Where is it, and are more dates coming?

Every venue and address is on our tour dates page, each with a map link.

We’re adding events every year, so check that page — new cities and dates go up there first.

Does my dancer need to be with a studio?

No. Conventions are open to studios, full crews and independent dancers. If your dancer trains with a studio their director usually registers them; if not, you can create an account and register them yourself.

What age groups are there?

Dancers train in age-matched groups: Little Sparks (5–6), Ember (7–9), Flare (10–12) and Flame (13–18). Groups come from your dancer’s date of birth, which is why we ask for it. Full detail is on the age categories page.

What if my dancer is new, or only takes one style?

That’s fine. Classes are pitched at the age group, not at a level, and faculty are used to mixed rooms. Dancers take every style on the schedule for their group.

What is the waiver?

Every dancer needs one signed before taking the floor. It’s signed electronically — you get a link, sign on your phone, done. Observers may need one too.

On the day

When should we arrive?

Check with your studio director for your dancer’s call time. Plan to be there and ready before the first class rather than arriving for it.

Can I stay and watch?

Yes — register as an observer and you can watch from the room. Observer places are limited by venue capacity, so add them when you register rather than on the day.

Can I take photos or video?

No — photography and video recording are not permitted during classes. Choreography belongs to the faculty teaching it, and other people’s children are in the room. Please keep phones away while class is running.

What should my dancer bring?

Shoes for every style on their schedule, water, snacks, hair ties, and a layer — ballrooms are rarely a comfortable temperature. Hair secured and off the face.

What styles will they take?

Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Tap and Pom/Funk & Acro, taught by our faculty. You can see who’s teaching on the staff page.

Money

What does it cost?

Pricing is listed during event registration and can vary by event — the tour dates page shows the current rate for each one.

How do we pay?

By card through our secure checkout. If your dancer is registered by a studio, the studio handles payment and will tell you what you owe them.

What if we have to withdraw?

Convention registration is final — fees are non-refundable and registrations can’t be cancelled once submitted, so please check your dancer is free for the date before you register. If we ever have to cancel an event ourselves, we’ll do our best to reschedule and carry your registration over.

Judged routines entered by your studio, with scores and awards afterwards.

Before the day

Where is the event?

Every venue and address is listed on our tour dates page, each with a map link.

Do I register my dancer, or does the studio?

Your studio does. Competition entries are submitted by a studio owner or director, so your dancer needs to be competing with a studio — there’s nothing for you to do in the portal. Speak to your director about which routines your dancer is in.

Independent dancers are welcome at our conventions; the studio requirement applies to competition only.

What is the waiver, and who signs it?

Every dancer needs a signed waiver before taking the stage. It’s signed electronically — your studio director sends a link, you sign on your phone, done. Depending on the event, observers may need one too. Your director can see who still needs to sign, so nobody gets caught out on the morning.

How does music work?

Your studio uploads music for each routine. Every track is checked for explicit lyrics beforehand — Radiate is a family event, so routines need clean edits. Uploads lock 3 days before the event, so directors have a hard cut-off to work to.

On the day

When should we arrive?

Check with your studio director — they’ll have your dancer’s call time. The running order is published to studios ahead of the event, and the schedule can move on the day, so plan to be there and ready well before the scheduled time rather than arriving for it.

Can our family come and watch? Is there a fee?

Yes, and no — competitions are free and open to the public. There is no spectator fee and nothing to book, so bring grandparents, siblings, whoever wants to come.

Can I take photos or video?

No — photography and video recording are not permitted during performances. Two reasons: choreography is a studio’s own work, and other people’s children are on that stage. Please put phones away while dancers are performing.

What should my dancer bring?

Costume and any quick-change pieces, shoes for every style they’re competing in, hair and makeup supplies, water and snacks, and a backup of their music on a labelled device. Venues are cold or hot and never in between — a layer helps.

Results & after

Where do I see my dancer’s scores?

In the portal. After the event, judges’ scores, placement, award and a downloadable scoresheet post to the account the routine was entered under. If your studio registered your dancer, your director has access and can share it with you.

Do we get feedback, or just a score?

Both. Every routine gets a scoresheet with the judges’ notes, so your dancer knows what to work on next season instead of guessing at a number.

How are dancers grouped?

By age division and level, so routines compete against dancers of similar age and experience. Divisions run Petites (5 and under), Minis (6–8), Juniors (9–11), Teens (12–14) and Seniors (15–18). Levels are Sparks (Debut), Illuminate (Intermediate) and Radiance (Elite).

Age is taken as of 1 January of the competition year, so a dancer with a mid-season birthday stays in the same division all year. Full detail is in the rules.

Money

What does it cost?

Entry fees are per dancer and depend on the routine type. Your studio sees exact pricing in the portal as they build each entry, so ask your director for your dancer’s total. A one-time media fee per dancer also applies to each event.

Competition entries are final — entry fees are non-refundable and entries can’t be cancelled once submitted. Let your studio director know as early as you can so they can adjust the routine if needed. If we ever have to cancel an event ourselves, we’ll do our best to reschedule and carry entries over.
